Political Science


Political science is a recognized branch in social science that is a study of various aspects of politics whether national or international. Political science study involves all the forms of politics in the country like the political system in the country, the nature of politics in the country, the political behavior and the political changes that take place frequently in the country. It is a vast study that involves the study of international politics and affairs, public affairs, internationals relations, foreign policies, public administration, policies and governmental procedures.

To be a political scientist, you need to have proper degree and course certification. It is necessary to have a major in the subject of political science. Bachelor of Arts in political science is to be chosen if you want to be a political scientist. The course comprises of three years and there are many recognized universities in the country that can help you get a degree in political science.

Current Scenario of Political Science in India

The current scenario in India is very good. Around 75 percent of the political scientists work in universities and colleges. They are also employed in research or teach various other subjects like history, economics etc in colleges. Jobs can also be found in government agencies. While others choose to work as consultants to the staff members or the secretaries of politicians or organizations, political parties, labor unions, private companies, radio, newspapers, civic associations, television stations, and magazines. There are various other jobs that are interesting and lucrative like the public relations, social management organizations, labor standards, Political communications etc.

The salary for a political scientist can be anywhere around Rs. 10,000 for an entry level and can go up to Rs. 25,000 with increase in experience and knowledge. Candidates can also get well paid if they join the international relations, administrative services, political journalism, law practice and the civil services. Various opportunities can be found with a political science degree today.

Major Political Science Examinations in India

For candidates who want to seek admissions to the Bachelor of Art course, should complete the higher secondary examination with political science and score at least 50% of aggregate marks. For those who have not studied political science too can apply, but should score around 55% of aggregate marks at the 12th standard.
