2010 Commonwealth Games, Previous Host Nations

Commonwealth Games is the international sport event which takes place once in every four years. The first Commonwealth Games took place in the year 1930 in Canada. The present Commonwealth games which is the 19th version of the Games, will take place in India, in 2010.

There are more than 50 nations and 70 teams that participate in the Commonwealth Games. The previous host nations of the prestigious Commonwealth Games are as follows.


Canada

was the host nation of the 1930 Commonwealth Games. It took place in Hamilton, Ontario from 16th to 23rd August, 1930. Among the 6 countries that participated in every Commonwealth Games, Canada is one. It also hosted the Games 4 times. In the 1930 Games, Canada secured 54 medals.

England

was the host nation of the 1934 Commonwealth Games. It took place in London from 4th to 11th August, 1934. England is also among the 6 other nations to have attended all the Games. It is presently at the second position in the medal winners rank list.

Australia

was the host nation of the 1938 Commonwealth Games. It took place in Sydney from 5th to 12th February, 1938. Australia has hosted the Games 4 times. It has participated in all the Commonwealth Games. Currently Australia stands in the first position of the winners list.

New Zealand

was the host nation of the 1950 Commonwealth Games. It took place in Auckland from 4th to 11th February, 1950. It has hosted the Commonwealth Games 3 times and attended all the editions.

Canada

was the host nation of the 1954 Commonwealth Games. It took place in Vancouver from 30th July to 7th August, 1954.

Wales

was the host nation of the 1958 Commonwealth Games. It took place in Cardiff from 18th to 26th July, 1958. Wales has also taken part in all the Commonwealth Games

Australia

was the host nation of the 1962 Commonwealth Games. It took place in Perth from 22nd November to 1st December, 1962.

Jamaica

was the host nation of the 1966 Commonwealth Games. It took place in Kingston from 4th to 13th August, 1966.

Scotland

was the host nation of the 1970 Commonwealth Games. It took place in Edinburgh from 16th to 25th July, 1970. Besides the other 5 nations, Scotland also took part in all the Commonwealth Games.

New Zealand

was the host nation of the 1974 Commonwealth Games. It took place in Christchurch from 24th January to 2nd February, 1974.

Canada

was the host nation of the 1978 Commonwealth Games. It took place in Edmonton from 3rd to 12th August, 1978.

Australia

was the host nation of the 1982 Commonwealth Games. It took place in Brisbane from 30th September to 9th October, 1982.

Scotland

was the host nation of the 1986 Commonwealth Games. It took place in Edinburgh from 24th July to 2nd August, 1986

New Zealand

was the host nation of the 1990 Commonwealth Games. It took place in Auckland from 24th January to 3rd February, 1990
Canada
was the host nation of the 1994 Commonwealth Games. It took place in Victoria from 18th to 28th August, 1994.
Malaysia
was the host nation of the 1998 Commonwealth Games. It took place in Kuala Lumpur from 11th to 21st September 1998.
England
was the host nation of the 2002 Commonwealth Games. It took place in Manchester from 25th July to 4th August, 2002
Australia
was the host nation of the 2006 Commonwealth Games. It took place in Melbourne from 15th to 26th March, 2006
India
is the host nation of the 2010 Commonwealth Games. It will take place in Delhi from 3rd to 14th October, 2010. India will host the Commonwealth games in 2010, for the first time.
Scotland
will be the host nation of the 2014 Commonwealth Games. It took place in Glasgow from 23rd July to 3rd August.
