The Civil Service exam is one of the most prestigious career options. Every year, lakhs of students appear in the exam and only the best are able to crack it. The India Civil Services examination is conducted by the UPSC to recruit people to the various civil services, including the Indian Administrative Service, Indian Police, Service, and the Indian Foreign Service.

Some of the services that comprise the Group A of the Civil Services are the Indian Revenue Service, Indian Customs and Central Excise Service, Indian Ordinance Factories Service, Indian Postal Service, Indian Civil Accounts Service, Indian Railway Traffic Service, Indian Railway Accounts Service, Railway Protection Force, Indian Defense Estates Service and the Indian Information Service.

Entrance Exams for Civil Services



The Civil Services exams are conducted in two stages. The initial stage is the Prelims, which is held to select candidates for the Mains exam. The preliminary examination is an objective paper. Those who clear the preliminary exam have to appear in the Mains, which comprises of written exams. This is followed by an interview.

The age limit for appearing in the Civil Service exam is between 21 and 30 years. One has be a graduate in any discipline from a recognized university. For the SC/ST candidates there is a relaxation in the age limit and the number of attempts.
