Career in Nursing
Nursing is an excellent profession in India which involves looking after medical patients in a hospital or nursing home. Nursing courses in India can be categorized into bachelor's degree courses (B.Sc Nursing) and master's degree courses (M.Sc Nursing). In addition, diploma courses in nursing are also offered by a number of healthcare education institutes in India like General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) diploma courses.
Current Scenario of Nursing in India
In India, nursing courses entail looking after people who are suffering from different types of illnesses. A number of well-known nursing colleges and institutes hold entrance exams for the purpose of grading the students. However, there are many colleges and institutes in the country that allow direct admissions as well.
The country is home to 1,200 nursing degree schools, 2,000 nursing diploma schools, and 281 M.Sc nursing colleges. Every year, approximately 60,000 nurses are produced by the nation.
In order to be eligible to study B.Sc Nursing course, the students need to pass the Senior Secondary level examination or 10+2 examination. The total marks necessary to get admission is dependent on the requirement of the college or university concerned. In addition, the student must have Physics, Biology, and Chemistry as subjects in his/her 10+2 or Senior Secondary Level Examination. The age of the course aspirant must be minimum 17 years during the time of enrolment. For B.Sc Nursing post basic, the students need to pass their 10+2 exam and have a GNM diploma.
In order to pursue higher studies or M.Sc in nursing, candidates should have a B.Sc in nursing degree with the requisite marks. While studying M.Sc in nursing, they can specialize in the following areas:

- Cardiological/CTVS Nursing
- Nephrological Nursing
- Neurosciences Nursing
- Paediatric Nursing
- Critical Care Nursing
- Psychiatric Nursing
After qualifying with a B.Sc or M.Sc in nursing, candidates can work in the following domains:
- Staff Nurse - Offers direct patient care to one person or a team of individuals.
- Assistant Nursing Superintendent/Department Supervisor.
- Deputy Nursing Superintendent
- Nursing Supervisor or Ward Sister
- Director of Nursing

- Teacher of Nursing
- Community Health Nurse (CHN)
