Kanyakumari district is the southern most district of the state of Tamil Nadu, and the southern most tip of Peninsular India. It is located between 77° 15' and 77° 36' of east of longitudes and 8° 03' and 8° 35' north of Latitudes. It covers an area of 1,685 sq. km, occupying 1.29% of the area of Tamil Nadu, with the total population of 16,76,034 (as per 2001Census).

Agriculture is one the main source of income for the people of Kanyakumari district. They mainly grow paddy, apart from it they also grow tapioca and oilseeds such as groundnut and coconut. Some commercial crops like cashew, rubber, fruits and spices all also cultivated in this district.
