The City of Thane is the administrative headquarters of the Thane District in the state of Maharashtra, India. On the Thana River lies Thane, in the northern lowlands of Konkan Coast. It is one of the developed suburbs in Mumbai. Thane is situated at an approximate distance of thirty kilometers from Mumbai's central business district.

Thane has a variety of industries, which manufactures a variety of products. These products include pencils, glassware, woolen textiles, cotton textiles, dyestuffs, drugs and hand loomed fabrics. The city of Thane is separated by Thane Creek, a stream of water, which comes from the Arabian Sea. There is one Rail Bridge and two road bridges, which unite the two portions of Thane.
