About - National Stadium
Named after the popular field hockey player Dhyan Chand the National Stadium was built in 1933. Originally a multipurpose stadium today the sports complex is strictly dedicated to hockey. Spreading over an area of 17500 sq meters in a 37 acres complex this stadium has the capacity of accommodating 25,000 spectators. Selected as one of the venues for the 2010 Commonwealth Games this sports arena has been fully refurbished for the purpose.Dhyan Chand National Stadium - Facilites

The sports events that are scheduled to be held at the IG Indoor Stadium include Gymnastics, Cycling and Wrestling. The schedules for the three events are as follows Gymnastics 4 -8 October, Cycling 5 - 8 and Wrestling 5 - 10 October. One indoor stadium has been allotted for Gymnastics which has a spectator capacity of 14,348. Cycling will be held at a 50 m covered Timber Track which has a seating capacity of 4000 and for Wrestling three competition mat areas have been developed with a total seating capacity of 6,932.Road Distance of IGI Airport to National Stadium
National Stadium is situated at a distance of about 21 kms from the Indira Gandhi International airport. Easily accessible by bus private car and metro railway services the National Stadium is located in the heart of the city. However the fastest mode of commutation could be via metro.
