The Chandra Shekhar Azad University of Agriculture & Technology, Kanpur dates as far back as the year 1893. During its fledgling years, it was merely a small academy striving to impart quality training to revenue officers. Subsequently, it was elevated to the status of a Government Agriculture College in 1906. Having undergone a succession of changes, the institute finally came to be recognized as the Chandra Shekhar Azad University of Agriculture & Technology, 1975 onwards.

Created as a fine amalgam of two of Uttar Pradesh's best colleges of the field, Government Agriculture College, Kanpur and Uttar Pradesh College of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry, Mathura, Chandra Shekhar Azad University of Agriculture and Technology, boasts of three excellent departments, namely, the Faculties of Agriculture and Home Science at Kanpur and the Faculty of Agricultural Engineering and Technology at Etawah.

The university satisfies the requirements of 28 bucolic districts of Uttar Pradesh. Well-connected by road, the sprawling university campus is located in northwest Kanpur. Apart from a highly eminent faculty and well-placed alumnus the university flaunts an excellent library. The sophisticated University Central Library of Chandra Shekhar Azad University of Agriculture & Technology, Kanpur is computerized and houses nearly 64300 books, 4481 research periodicals, 474 Ph.D. thesis papers, 1903 Post Graduate dissertations and other reference materials, newspapers, magazines, brochures and journals.

The institute also has a well-coordinated placement cell that ensures that the best agricultural companies employ its students. Some of the leading recruiters for the year 2006 include Sonalika International Tractors Ltd, United Phosphorus Ltd., Canara Bank, Reliance Industries Ltd., The Godrej Agrovet Ltd, Hindalco Industries Ltd. among several others.
