The National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli or NITT, previously referred as the Regional Engineering College, Tiruchirappalli is situated in Tamil Nadu. It is a ‘public technology university’ that came up in the year 1964 in order to meet the developing technological needs of the country. This institute of technology in India is among the 18 National Institutes of Technology that has been set up in India by the Government of India.

The campus of the NITT is located near Thuvakudi, in Tiruchirappalli outskirts. The campus spreads over an area of 800 acres and is among the largest in India.

This institute for technical and engineering education is the joint venture of the Tamil Nadu Government and the Government of India. In the year 2003, National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli was recognized as a Deemed University and was named as the National Institute of Technology. The institute at present is experiencing increased growth through “World Bank-funded Technical Education Quality Improvement Program” or TEQIP.

This engineering institute aims at offering Top quality technical research and education, thereby providing quality man power to the society. Its mission is to provide undergraduate, graduate and doctoral courses, generate knowledge through involvement in research programmes, undertake various collaborative projects and develop the intellectual capacity of its students.
