Doctor Harisingh Gaur Vishwa Vidyalaya

Dr. Harisingh Gour on July18th, 1946, established Doctor Harisingh Gour Vishwavidyalaya, the oldest university of the state of Madhya Pradesh, previously known as the University of Saugar. The eighteenth University in India and also the largest University of Madhya Pradesh is perhaps the only example of having been founded by a single person's earned money.

The University is located at a distance of 5Kms from the city of Sagar and the university campus is on Patharia hills, sprawling over 830.3 hectares of land. The present Vice Chancellor of the university is Prof N.S. Gajbhiye and the Registrar is Prof N.K. Jain. The University houses more than 36 teaching departments, 81 affiliating colleges, 10 faculties and covers 6 districts of M.P.

Besides conventional degree courses, the university offers post graduate and also research programmes in Geology, Criminology & Forensic Science, Pharmacy, Anthropology, Journalism & Mass Communication, Performing Arts, Adult Education, Business Management, Electronics, Microbiology, Computer Applications, Biotechnology.
