Tripura University

The formation of the Tripura University is the result of the immense amount of urges and demands for higher education among the people of the state. After a long delayed process, the University of Tripura finally came in to existence on October 2nd, 1987 under the ‘Tripura University Act’. The university campus is located at Suryamaninagar.

TU is an autonomous university, the Vice-Chancellor of which is Prof. A. Saha. The Tripura University has undertaken various developmental programmes like setting up of ‘Open Air Theatre’, ‘Day Care Centre’, ‘Pariksha Bhavan’, and ‘University Lake’ etc. Some of the other facilities of this Central University of Tripura are computer centre, NSS unit, sports board, student’s amenities centre, hostels for both boys and girls, health centre, a branch of State Bank of India, post-office, etc. The university also has the opportunity for distance education.
