Rivers In Jalor

Jalor Rivers include the famous rivers by the names of Luni, Bandi, Sukri and Jawai. Almost all the rivers of Jalor flow from the south western direction towards the eastern region of the district.

Among all these Jalor Rivers, Sukri river is the major river of the region. The Sukri river is basically a tributary of the Luni river.

The Sukri river flows past the regions of Mount Abu in the Aravali ranges of India. The three districts which are touched by this river, among all other Jalor Rivers, include the Sirohi district, Barmer district and the Jalor district. The Luni river, however, originates in the western regions of the state of Rajasthan in the Indian sub-continent. Pushkar valley is the point of origin of the Luni river, which is located near the Aravali hills.

The elevation of the Luni river is five hundred and fifty meters at the region of Ajmer. Before merging into the marshes of the Runn of Kutch, the river Luni, among the rivers in Jalor, stretches up to a distance of four hundred and ninety five kilometers. The Luni river also forms a basin by the name of Luni River Basin which covers an area of thirty seven thousand three hundred and sixty three square kilometers. The various districts over which this Luni River Basin is placed are those of Jodhpur, Ajmer, Barmer, Pali, Jalor, Sirohi and Nagaur. The latitude of the Luni, among the other Jalor Rivers, is 71° 04' and 74° 42, while the longitude is 23° 41' and 27° 05'.
