The Kendriya Vidyalaya No.1, Amritsar is situated in the cantonment area in the city of Amritsar with the Military Hospital as its neighboring building.
The school was established in the year 1975 to academically cater to the requisites of the wards of the military officers. The Kendriya Vidyalaya No.1, Amritsar is affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education that conducts examinations and awards certificate to the meritorious students.

The school provides secondary and higher secondary education in the school premises. It has more than 2300 students in the classes that start from Kindergarten to class 12.
