Sundar Pichai Biography

Sundar Pichai or Pichai Sundararajan is the current Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Google. He is one of the few Indians to hold such an important position in the Information Technology (IT) industry.

Early and Personal Life

Sundar Pichai was born in 1972 to Lakshmi and Raghunath Pichai. Born in Chennai, Sundar Pichai belonged to a middle-class family. His mother used to work as a stenographer and his father was an electrical engineer. Sundar Pichai holds a B.Tech degree from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kharagpur. He also earned his MS degree from Stanford University and MBA degree from The Wharton School.

He is married to Anjali Pichai and has two children – a daughter and a son.

Career

Sundar Pichai began his career with McKinsey & Company where he worked in the engineering and product management at Applied Materials. In 2004, he joined Google and led the product team for Google Chrome, Chrome OS and Google Drive. He also oversaw the development of different apps such as Gmail and Google Maps. In 2013 he replaced Andy Rubin as the Android chief. He was the member of the Board of Advisors of Ruba Inc, and had been a director of Jive Software.

Google is being reorganised and named Alphabet Inc. and Pichai has been declared its new CEO. As the CEO, Pichai manages and control ads, search, maps, YouTube, the Google Play Store, and Android.
