Rani Mukherjee Biography

Rani Mukherjee is one of the leading actors of Bollywood,  was born on March 21, 1978. She is a member of the well known Mukherjee-Samarth family. She has stated several times that she never aspired to become an actress but only joined films because her parents insisted.

Rani Mukerjee is the first actress to have bagged two major awards in a year when she won both the Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress Awards at the 50th Filmfare Awards held during 2005.

Along with her successful career as a movie star, Mukerjee has also appeared as a judge on Dance Premier League, a reality show telecast by Sony Entertainment Television. She has always kept her personal life under wraps and the Indian media has termed a recluse. She presently stays at Juhu with her parents.

Early Life of Rani Mukherjee

Mukerjee comes from a Bengali family that is closely connected with the business of films. Ram Mukherjee, her father, founded the Filmalaya Studios and is an erstwhile director and Krishna Mukherjee, her mother, is a former playback singer. Kajol, her cousin, is one of the most popular actors of Bollywood, and Debashree Roy, her maternal aunt, was formerly one of the leading stars of Bengali cinema.

Her cousin Ayan Mukerji has written and helmed one of the finest Hindi films of 2009, Wake Up Sid. The Mukherjee family is traditional one and every year organizes the Durga Puja at Santacruz. Mukerji is a common feature of these festivities thanks to her religious nature.

She has trained in Odissi, one of the many dance forms of India, having started when she was in the 10th grade. She has studied at Maneckji Cooper High School, Juhu and Mithibai College.

Philanthropy by Rani Mukherjee

Rani Mukerji is a part of several social programs and states that education for every child in India is her dream. She feels India’s high rate of growth means such a scenario will become extremely important for the country to sustain itself in future. During March 2004 she visited an army training base at Rajasthan to spend some time with the troops and up their morale.

The visit was part of a show named Jai Jawan, which features entertainers visiting Indian troops, and was telecast on NDTV. During February 2005 at the HELP! Telethon Concert she performed to generate funds for the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake victims.

In March 2006, she spent some quality time with the specially-abled children at Helen Keller Institute when they organized a birthday party for her.
