Sabyasachi Mukherjee

Sabyasachi Mukherjee, the young designer from Kolkata is setting new standards for the Indian fashion scenario. A graduate from NIFT (Kolkata) and a winner of three major awards (1999), he has four retail outlets, one each in New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Hyderabad.

Sabyasachi Mukherjee is of the opinion that clothes should be an expansion of one’s intellect. His forever inspirations have been gypsies, deserts, prostitutes, antique textiles and cultural custom of Kolkata, his homeland. He uses uncommon fabrics, and fuses the styles of patch-work with attractive accompaniments in a vivacious colored palette to bring in the mood of the medieval age. He explains his own collection as 'an International styling with an Indian soul'

This talented designer has proved his genius in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Black, where he was the costume designer. The film won the National award in 2005.

A glance on the list of awards received by Sabyasachi Mukherjee will confirm his talent yet again:

Best Design Collection NIFT Kolkata,

Best Design Collection NIFT All India,

Ritu Kumar Award for Excellence in Design,

Femina British Council most outstanding young Designer of India Award (2001),

Grand winner award at the Mercedes New Asia fashion week in Singapore (2003)
