Abhinav Bindra Biography

Abhinav Bindra, one of the eminent sports personalities hailing from the Indian subcontinent, has many a claim to his fame. Born in the year 1983, in Punjab Bindra is a promising and talented youngster who has made his mark in international shooting.

Abhinav Bindra indefatigable spirit and ability to take up challenges has placed him amongst the top in the world of shooting. He shot to fame after his remarkable record of 597/600 in the Munich World Cup, winning the bronze medal for his country. In the year 2000, Bindra was the youngest participant in the Olympics. A year later in 2001, he won six gold medals at an international event. This was followed by a chain of victories for the young shooter.

The 2002 Commonwealth Games, Manchester was another milestone in Bindra’s career when he won the gold medal in the pairs’ event and silver in the individual event. He also received the Arjuna award in the year 2001 and was the recipient of the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award for 2001-2002.

The gold medal that Bindra won in the World Championship in Zagreb on July 24, 2006 added another feather to his cap. It was for the first time in history that an Indian player had managed to win the coveted gold medal in an international event.
