Koneru Humpy Biography

Koneru Humpy ” The grand Chessmaster ” was born on 31st March 1987 at Gudivada in Andhra Pradesh. This nineteen-year-old sportstar won 4 World Titles-under 10,12,14 and when she was only 15 she achieved the GM title and broke the record of Judit Polgar.

According to the recent record of Fide Ratings Koneru’s rank is 5th in the world. In the month of July(2006) Koneru occupied the second position in women’s rankings with an Elo score of 2545.

The first woman grandmaster Koneru won the World Junior championship in 2001 while in 2006 she lost the Women’s World Chess Championship in the second round.

Koneru was named Humpy by her father Ashok and she uses this given name after Koneru,her family name.

The top chess champion Koneru Humpy achieved the glory by her strong determination and sincere devotion. Her career started when she won the 4th place in the Indian under-8 championships(1995). Since then Humpy never looked back. In 1998 Humpy participated in the world under-10 competition and won the gold medal. By taking part in different matches she paved her way to success.
