Hailed as the thinking man’s actor, Mr. Perfectionist Khan was bestowed with the Padma Shri (2003) and Padma Bhushan (2010) by the government of India for his valuable contribution to the Indian cinema. With topics spanning several genres, such as 3 Idiots (dealing with the education system), PK (satire on society), and Dangal (sports biopic of female wrestlers), his movies are counted among the biggest opening movies of Bollywood. Additionally, his programme Satyamev Jayate dealing with social issues on TV well established him as the conscience-keeper of the nation. Not many would know that the great freedom fighter Maulana Abul Kalam Azad was his great grand uncle. Interestingly, he has a dedicated fan following overseas too, and his films 3 Idiots, PK, Dangal and Secret Superstar were successive hits in neighbouring China.
