Nita Ambani Biography

Nita Ambani (born 1 November 1963) is the founder and chairperson of the Reliance Foundation. She is the wife of business tycoon Mukesh Ambani and is counted among the wealthiest women of the country.

She is also a passionate art collector and chairs the Hero Indian Super League. She has also invested in cricket by co-owning the IPL team Mumbai Indians. Her family worth is estimated over $ 40 Billion.

Early Life

Nita Dalal was born in a family of rather limited means. She pursued a bachelor’s degree in Commerce from Narsee Monjee College of Commerce and Economics and practiced Bharata Natyam fondly.

She felt that the dance helped her to connect with her spiritual self. She soon became a professional in the dance form. And it was a cultural event dance performance that got her noticed by the then Reliance Mogul Dhirubhai Ambani and his wife Kokilaben. Both, hugely impressed, sought Nita as their daughter-in-law immediately.

Career

Nita Ambani worked for the building a company township which had benefitted Reliances mega-refinery’s employees at Jamnagar.

She also runs reliance foundation, which is one of the biggest private foundation of India. It has philanthropic initiatives mainly in the domains of women empowerment, sports, healthcare, disaster management and relief.

She is also the founder and chairperson of Mumbai based, Dhirubhai Ambani International School. Various publications have put it among the top schools in India.

Awards and Achievements

She received ‘Rashtriya Khel Protsahan Award 2017’, as a chairperson of Reliance Foundation, for the initiatives in grass root sports. In 2016, Forbes magazine featured her in the list of top influential women of Asia.

She was ranked among 50 mighty Indians by India Today. She was also honoured for works in philanthropy, arts and education, by the Metropolitan Museum in New York.

Personal Life

Nita is the daughter of Purnima Dalal and Ravindrabhai Dalal. She also has a sister, Mamta Dalal who is a school teacher. Nita Ambani has three children from her more than 30 years of marriage to Mukesh Ambani.

They are blessed with twins Isha and Ishant and a boy Anant. Isha is a psychology graduate from Yale University and Anant is graduated in the economics from Brown University. He is currently Reliance Jio Infocomm’s chief of strategy.
