Amrita Rao Biography

Amrita Rao is a model turned actor of Hindi film industry. She was a well known commercial actor in early 2000.

Amrita was born to a well to do family in Maharashtra. She was a brilliant student. Her name featured in the merit list of Sophia College, Mumbai. Her career started with an audition for the advertisement film for “Fair Ever Face Cream”. She got selected out of over sixty girls and that’s how filmy career started to prosper.

Within a span of 18 months, she got offers to promote more than 18 major brands. But the success of ads like Cadbury Perk and Bru Coffee brought her into the limelight and she got offers from Bollywood.

In 2002 she appeared in the movie Ab Ke Baras, but it went unnoticed. Amrita gained recognition as the girl-next-door in the movie Ishq Vishq (2003).

In the year 2004 two of her movies – Masti and Main Hoon Na- were major hits and her talent came to the notice of directors. Some of her major releases include Ishq Vishq, Masti, Main Hoon Na, The Legend of Bhagat Singh and Pyare Mohan. But the film that actually made her the heartthrob of the nation is Sooraj R Barjatya’s romantic-drama Vivah (2006). The film was considered one of the biggest box-office success, grossing more than 539 million (US$7.6 million) worldwide. Though the film received mixed reviews from the critics, Rao received major nominations that year for best actor categories.

Not only her acting but she was also praised for her semblance. M.F. Husain, world-renowned artist pronounced her his second muse 11 years after he painted Madhuri Dixit and dedicated several paintings for the actor.
