Sunil Shetty Biography

Sunil Shetty is a popular action hero of Bollywood and gave a new direction to action films in India. He was born on August 11, 1961 in Mulki, near Mangalore, Karnataka. He married Mana and has two children named Athiya and Ahan with her. He excels in kickboxing and is a black belt holder. Presently, he is involved in hotel business and also owns the MISCHIEF garment outlet.

In 1992, Sunil Shetty entered the film industry with the film Balwaan. The film impressed the audience due to some dangerous stunts performed by him in the film. Mohra (1994) was the film which gave his career a real breakthrough. The film became a hit, as it was a typical Bollywood film with lots of action, music and melodrama. He became the first choice of directors in action movies. He starred in many films with Akshay Kumar who is another action hero of Bollywood, and gave hits like Mohra, Dhadkan, Awara Pagal Dewana and Hera Pheri. He later acted in a few patriotic movies such as Border (1997), LOC Kargil (2003) and Qayamat: City Under Threat (2003).

Sunil Shetty was highly praised for the role of Bhairo Singh, a Rajashthani army captain in the film Border. For this role he was awarded the Zee Cine Best Actor Award. He played the role of a villain in Dhadkan (2000) and was appreciated by the audience. He received two awards for this role: the Filmfare Best Villain Award and the Zee Cine Award for Best Male Actor in a Supporting Role. Some of the hit films of Sunil Shetty include Balwan, Anth , Mohra, Dilwale, Gopi Kishan, Border, Bhai, Hera Pheri, Dhadkan, Jungle, Awara Pagal Deewana, Kaante, Qayamat, Hulchal, Main Hoon na, Dus, Phir Hera Pheri. Some of his recent hits are Dus (2005), Phir Hera Pheri (2006) and Apna Sapna Money Money (2006).

Popcorn Entertainment is a production company owned by Sunil Shetty. It has produced a few films like Khel (2003) and Rakht: What If You Can See the Future (2004) which were not successful on the box office. Bhagam Bhag (2006) can be said as the first successful film produced by the company.

Shootout at Lokhandvala (2007), De Dana Dan (2009), Thank You (2011), and The Shaukeens (2014) are some of his other well known films. Pailwaan and Shooter are expected to be released in 2019. Mumbai Saga is another film awaiting release in 2020.
