Sunny Deol Biography

Sunny Deol is a popular action hero of Bollywood. He was born on 19th October 1956 in New Delhi. His original name was Ajay Singh Deol.

He was born to the famous actor of Bollywood Dharmendra and Prakash Kaur. His younger brother Bobby Deol is also an actor and has two half-sisters, Esha Deol, who is an actress and Ahana Deol. He went abroad to learn the skills of acting. He studied theater and acting at the Old Web Theater in Birmingham, England.

Sunny Deol’s first step into the world of Bollywood was through the film Betaab in 1983. The film was a superhit and the role of the romantic hero opposite Amrita Singh that he played was widely appreciated. After some negative responses from his movies he performed in an action film Arjun (1985). The film was very successful where he played the title role of Arjun who is a jobless youth and circumstances compel him to become a gangster.

The role confirmed his place in the industry as an action superhero of Bollywood which was led forward by Dacait (1987) and Yateem (1988). After some ups and down in his career came Rajkumar Santoshi’s Ghayal (1990) which made him an action icon of Bollywood. He played the role of a boxer who is caught in a web of unprecedented situations and finally fights for justice.

Sunny Deol’s superhit action films including Tridev(1989), Vishwatma (1992), Imtihaan(1995), Ghatak(1996), Ziddi(1997), Border(1998), and Indian(2001) among others.

He excelled in action films but tried his hand at some romantic movies like Chaalbaaz(1989), Damini(1993), Darr(1993), Jeet(1996),and Gadar: Ek Prem Katha (2001). Gadar: Ek Prem Katha was the biggest hit of his film career.

His recent movie was Big Brother : Every Family has a Hero (2007). His fans have crowned him “the Action King of Bollywood”. Apart from being an actor he is also a director and directed the film Dillagi. He even starred in the film with his younger brother Bobby Deol and Urmila Matondkar. The film couldn’t do well on the box Office but Sunny received accolades for his directorial skills.

Sunny Deol won many awards for his exceptional performances which include:

• National Film Awards for Best Supporting Actor for Damini(1993)
• Filmfare Award Best Supporting Actor for the film Damini(1994)
