Soma Biswas Biography

One of the brightest stars of Indian athletics, Soma Biswas is a two-time medal winner in the Asian Games. One of the specialists in the heptathlon event she won the silver medal in 2002 Asian Games, Busan and again silver in the 2006 Asiad, Doha.

Soma was born on 16th May, 1978 in Ranaghat, West Bengal. She was attracted to athletics from her childhood. One of the most experienced athletics coaches in the state, Kuntal Roy soon realized the potential in her and started training Soma.

She excelled in the 1996 state meet, winning the first position in Heptathlon and from then onwards there was no looking back for her. She has won medals for the country in various championships like the Afro-Asian Games, SAF Games and the Asian Games. She and J.J. Shobha are two of the most potential athletes of the country in the Heptathlon event. Soma got married recently but she is keen to carry on competing.
