Suresh Raina is an eminent player in the world of Cricket, Suresh Raina is an attacking left-handed middle-order batsman. A versatile person, Raina is known for his significant contributions in various fields.

An occasional off-spin bowler, Raina is considered one of the best fielders in the world. Currently, Raina is the captain of Gujarat Lions in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and he was the vice-captain of Chennai Super Kings.

He made his One Day International (ODI) debut in 2005 against Sri Lanka. Raina has contributed significantly towards Indian Premier League(IPL) franchise, Chennai Super Kings making the Super Kings to win the IPL title twice in 2010 and 2011.

A firm believer of hard work and courage, Suresh Raina once wrote through his Twitter handle [ @ImRaina ]- “I do not think once you get to one level, you can relax, You’ve got to keep pushing.”

He is known to have somewhat of singing capabilities as he has lent his voice for the soundtrack “Tu Mili Sab Mila” of the film Meeruthiya Gangster. A firm believer in hard work, and a big fan of Rahul Dravid, Suresh Raina articulated his views through an article that featured in the 2012 book Rahul Dravid: Timeless Steel.

Family Background

An Indian International Cricketer, Suresh Raina was born to Shri Trilokchand Raina and Smt. Parvesh Raina on 27th November, 2017 in Muradnagar city of district Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh.

His family includes his father Shri Trilokchand Raina, who worked at Ordnance Factory, his mother Smt.Parvesh Raina, his three older brothers- Dinesh Raina, Naresh Raina and Mukesh Raina and his one elder sister- Renu Raina.

He is the youngest of five siblings. Currently his family lives in Raj Nagar, Ghaziabad. The star cricketer of the Indian Cricket Team married his childhood friend and banker, Priyanka Chaudhary on 3rd April, 2015.

Raina and Priyanka were blessed with an adorable daughter Gracia Raina on 14th May, 2016 in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. On the first birthday of their daughter, the couple announced the launch of Gracia Raina Foundation, dedicated to the aid of underprivileged mothers across the country.

Career

In 2002, Raina left his hometown in Muradnagar to move to Lucknow and attend the specialist Government Sports College. His passion for Cricket knows no bounds as he started playing at the young age of 18. His amazing shots, techniques and his fast scoring ability fetched him a place in the Indian International Cricket team.

In February 2003, he made his Ranji Trophy debut for Uttar Pradesh against Assam. Raina played the U-19 Asian ODI Championship match in Pakistan.

However, in 2004 star cricketer Suresh Raina was selected for 2004 U-19 World Cup, where he scored three half centuries and including a 90 scored off just 38 balls.

He was awarded the Border-Gavaskar Scholarship in 2004 to train at the Australian Cricket Academy.

In 2005, Raina made his One Day International (ODI) debut against Sri Lanka. Left-handed middle order batsman Suresh Raina made his Twenty 20 debut in the year 2006.

Suresh Raina made his Test debut in 2010 against Sri Lanka. After 2011 World Cup, star batsman Suresh Raina took over as the captain of the ODI side for India’s tour of West Indies.

Often after International disappointments, Suresh Raina bounced back through strong performances in Ranji Trophy and powerful knocks at Indian Twenty20 League to knock hard at the doors of the selectors.

However, in 2017 Raina was dropped from the Annual Retainership of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) as he could not manage to remain a regular fixture in the Indian Team.

Raina became the 13th Indian batsman to cross 4000 International runs in his 159th One Day International (ODI).

Awards

Star Cricketer Suresh Raina was awarded the CEAT T20 International Player of the Year Award in 2011.
