K Sasikiran Biography

Krishnan Sasikiran, known in the professional world as K Sasikiran, is a renowned chess player of India. Born on 7th January 1981, Sasikiran hails from Chennai, Tamil Nadu. He learnt chess from his father S. Krishnan at the very early age of 9.

From a very young age, K Sasikiran started displaying his talents in chess. Professionally, his first tournament was the State under-10 Championship in Salem. Success followed with the win in the National under-18 Championship in 1995 at Bangalore. The Grandmaster title came with his fabulous performance in Commonwealth Championship 2000 at Sangli.

By this time, the Indian chess player K Sasikiran was already famous and 2001 brought another grand win with the ICF Golden Jubilee International Open in Calicut. K Sasikiran added feathers to his cap with the victory in the International Grandmasters tournament at Raipur on March 15, 2002. The year 2002 became particularly fruitful for Sasikiran as victories continued with the 77th Hastings International Chess Congress in England and the Asian International Open in Bikaner.

At present, Sasikiran has crossed the 2650 FIDE Ratings and is strongly pursuing the 2700 mark. He has also been graced with the Arjun Award, the highest sports award in India.
