Mangalore Transportation

Mangalore transportation is supported by the railways, airways, roadways and the waterways of Mangalore. The Mangalore Harbor and the Mangalore International Airport form an important part of the transportation in Mangalore.

To begin with, it can be said that the airways form an indelible part of the transportation system of Mangalore. Mangalore International Airport located at Bajpe is about 20 kilometers from the center of the city. The Mangalore International Airport contains a series of flights that connect Mangalore to the different destinations around the world.

Besides, the Mangalore Harbor connects Mangalore to the different parts of the world. The Mangalore Harbor supports the transportation of bulk and fluid cargos. In fact, the Mangalore Harbor seems to be the gateway to Karnataka.

Mangalore had once been the last station that connected Mangalore to the rest of India. But later, railway track was constructed through the Western Ghats that connected Mangalore with Hassan. This endeavor to connect Mangalore with Hassan failed. Presently, a broad gauge line connects Mangalore to Bangalore via Hassan.

Furthermore, the bus service run by Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation largely supports the transportation at Mangalore. Mangalore possesses an excellent network of roadways. The bus services connect Mangalore to the different parts of Karnataka, as well of India. The national highway of Mangalore (NH-27) connects Mangalore to the major towns and cities of India.
