Calangute economy is mainly based on tourism. Considered as the Queen of Beaches, Calangute Beach attracts a large number of tourists from all over the world every year. Along with that, some nearby tourist attractions have enabled the tourism industry of Calangute into a thriving one. Several top class line hotels and resorts have been established in Calangute, strengthening the tourism scenario.
Another major aspect of the economy of Calangute is the fishing-related industry. Along with the traditional fishing communities, the new age residents are also engaged in this industry. Two other small scale industries in Calangute are the handicraft and garment industry. Many people earn their livelihood by working in these industries.
