Kanara Parliamentary Constituency is a strong seat for the INC. G. Devaray Naik won 4 times (1980, 1984, 1989 and 1991) for the INC from Kanara Parliamentary Constituency.

Bordered by the Western Ghats in the east and the Arabian Sea in the west, the region of Kanara is also known as the Karavali coast.
