Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu form a unified union territory in India, resulting from the merging of the former territories of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu. The proposal for this merger was first announced by the Government of India in July 2019, with the necessary legislation passed in the Parliament of India in December 2019. This merger officially took effect on January 26, 2020. The territory comprises four distinct geographical entities: Dadra, Nagar Haveli, Daman, and the island of Diu. They came under Indian governance during the mid-20th century following the annexation of Goa and the Free Dadra and Nagar Haveli.
Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu General Election 2024
Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, being merged into a single Union Territory in 2019, collectively have one seat in the Lok Sabha, the lower house of the Parliament of India.
The upcoming 2024 Indian general election for Daman and Diu is scheduled for May 7, 2024, aiming to elect the sole representative to the 18th Lok Sabha from this union territory. Since Daman and Diu have only one parliamentary seat, voting will exclusively take place during phase 3 of the elections. Therefore, there won't be any additional phases for this constituency. The deadline for submitting nominations for the Lok Sabha 2024 Election is on April 19, 2024.
