Summary of Andhra Pradesh Elections 2014

The general election 2014 was conducted in the state of Andhra Pradesh in two phases, on 30 April 2014 and 7 May 2014. The first phase of election will elect MPs for 17 parliamentary constituencies while the second phase will elect members for the 25 LS seats.

Phase I polling

In the first round of two-phased polling on 30 April 2014 in the Telangana region of Andhra Pradesh, 2,81,74,056 electors were eligible to cast their vote. However, nearly 72% voters turned up at 30,574 polling stations to get inked. Total 265 candidates are in the fray.

Phase II polling

The last and final phase of polling in Andhra Pradesh was conducted on 7 May 2014 to elect MPs for 25 Lok Sabha seats. The electoral roll had 3,67,62,976 enlisted electors, of which 1,82,49,310 were male while 1,84,69,027 voters were female.

Polling at Visakhapatnam

During the second phase of polling in the state, Visakhapatnam witnessed the lowest voter turnout with 70.57%. In the 2009 general elections, it had registered 72.54%.

Re-polling at 29 polling stations

As per the orders of the EC, re-polling was ordered at 29 polling stations in the state of Andhra Pradesh on 13 May. Of the 29 polling stations, 11 were in the Telangana region while 18 were present in Seemandhra. The decision to conduct re-polling was taken following the reports of violent practices on the day of balloting. Also, there were technical glitches in the EVMs at certain polling booths.
