The major parties in the Lok Sabha Elections 2014 in Gujarat were the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and the Indian National Congress (INC). The BJP, being the ruling party in the state, enjoyed an upper hand over the other political parties. Key players from the BJP included Narendra Modi and L.K. Advani.

Narendra Modi was the declared prime ministerial candidate for the BJP, and was considered most likely to succeed. He contested the election from two constituencies, Vadodara (Gujarat) and Varanasi (UP). The 86-year-old L.K. Advani contested from his old seat, Gandhinagar, from where he has been elected MP five times.

The Congress gave tickets to three candidates from the Koli community for the seats of Bhavnagar, Rajkot and Surendranagar. These candidates were Pratap Rathod, Kunvarji Bavaliya, and Soma Koli. Bhavsinh Rathod from Patan was a strong contender fielded by the Congress party.

Exit Polls

Gujarat's scenario as per exit polls for the Lok Sabha Election 2014 was fairly transparent, as there was a strong wave in support of the BJP's Narendra Modi. According to prominent opinion polls, the BJP was set to win 20+ of the 26 seats.
