Eluru is the headquarters of West Godavari district in Andhra Pradesh. Located on the national highway linking Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam, Eluru Parliamentary Constituency, a part of Machilipatnam district and formerly known as Helapuri, was incorporated in the Godavari District in 1859.
Eluru Parliamentary Constituency has a population of 250,000 (according to a report of 2005).
Eluru, lying on the alluvial terrain between the Krishna and Godavari deltas and located at a distance of 40 miles north-east of Vijayawada, is famous for the fresh water lake of Kolleru.
