The members of the Lok Sabha(the House of People) are directly elected by the people of India through the policy of Adult Franchise.
Each Lok Sabha seat consists of a clearly defined territory and each state has a fixed number of seats.
An autonomous statutory body called the Election Commission is solely responsible for the 'superintendence, direction and control' of the electoral rolls for all elections to Parliament and to the State Legislatures. The Chief Election Commissioner is vested with the responsibility conducting the elections.
Kerala the southernmost state of Indian Peninsula has 20 Parliamentary Constituencies in its different districts.
They are-
Of these constituencies, Ottapalam and Adoor are reserved for the candidates of Scheduled Caste and Tribes.
Pathanamthitta district does not have any particular Parliamentary constituency and the in its purview. The eight Assembly constituencies in Pathanamthitta are divided and form a part of different constituencies. Adoor and Konni is a portion of Adoor Parliamentary constituency. Aranmula, Thiruvalla and Kolloopara are included in the Pandalam Assembly.
The Kozhikode district consists of 2 parliamentary constituencies of the state- Vadakara and Kozhikode.
The Malappuram district consists of a parliamentary constituency at Ponnani, a coastal town.
The Alappuzha district has the Mavelikkara Parliamentary. The Mavelikara Parliament constituency is represented by Ms. C.S.Sujatha (CPI-M) from 2004.
The Kottayam district has only one parliamentary constituency. However certain parts of Pala, Poonjar and Kanjirapplly are made a part of the Moovattupuzha Parliamentary constituency.
The Kollam District has two parliamentary constituencies. A part of Adoor parliamentary constituency is included in the area of Kollam and Pathanamthitta districts.
The Kannur district has three Parliamentary constituencies- Kannur, Kasaragod and Vadakara.
The Kasargod has one Parliamentary Constituency.
The Trissur district consists of two parliamentary constituencies - Thrissur and Mukundapuram. Sri.C.K.Chandrappan is the M.P of Thrissur and Sri. Lonappan Nambadan is the M.P. of Mukundapuram.
The Trivandrum district has two parliamentary constituencies- The Chirayinkeezh and the Thiruvananthapuram or Trivandrum Parliamentary Constituency.
