Governor

The present Governor of Andhra Pradesh is the eminent scholar and politician Mr. Rameshar Thakur. Shri Rameshar Thakur is a man of many parts and he was an active member of the Quit India Movement of 1942. He had spent a considerable time of his life in Jail, arrested for fighting for the country. He has worked for the educational upliftment of the society and still working for the improvement of health care, rural reconstruction and other social reforms.

Born on 28th July, 1927, Rameshar Thakur completed his studies from, Patna University, Calcutta University and The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, New Delhi. Although he is a chartered accountant by profession, he has served as a professor in various universities.

The present governor of Andhra Pradesh, Mr. Thakur has represented India in various International conferences and seminars. He was the deputy leader of the Indian Parliamentary Union Conference in Geneva, 1984. He was also the leader of the Indian delegation to the 17th General Assembly in Coventry, London in the year 1987.

His political career is also similarly significant. He was elected to the Rajya Sabha for a couple of time on 1984 to 1990 and again from 1990 to 1996. He was appointed the Union Minister of State for Finance, Rural development and Parliamentary Affairs in 1991 and served till 1994. He has travel extensively around the world, visiting countries like Russia, Germany, France, Mexico, Italy and many others.
