Phunderdihari is located in the Surguja district of the newly formed Indian state of
Chhattisgarh. It is, by nature, a census town which means that at least 75% of the male population is engaged in profession other than agriculture and it has a population density of more than 400 people per sq. km. The languages used predominantly in Phunderdihari city are Hindi and Chhattisgarhi though English is used for most official purposes.
As per the census of 2001, Phunderdihari is home to a population of 16,106. This population comprises of 51% males and 49% females. Thus, the place can be termed as more or less balanced in terms of sex ratio.
